The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) is responsible for eleven civic museums since its foundation in 2008 and boasts an immense cultural heritage. It includes the famous Doge’s Palace at Saint Mark's Square; the neoclassic design Museo Correr that exhibits many historical collections on the institutions of the Serenissima and many Venetian paintings up to the early 1500s; the famous Torre dell Orologio; 18th-Century Art museum, Ca’Rezzonico; history of costumes and dresses, Palazzo Mocenigo; the Casa di Carlo Goldoni, a famous Venetian playwright; the international Gallery of Modern Art, Ca’ Pesaro; the gothic style Palazzo Fortuny of visual arts; the glass museum, Museo del Vetro di Murano; the lace museum, Museo del Merletto di Burano; the Natural History Museum of Venice. 

MUVE offers 3 kinds of Passes for its Museums: the St. Mark's Square museums ticket, the Museums Pass, and the Doge Palace Secret Itinerary Tour.

ST. MARK'S SQUARE MUSEUMS

It includes the Doge's Palace, Museo Correr, the National Archeological Museum, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. 

If you were to spend one day visiting just a couple of Museums in Venice, I would definitely recommend the first 2, alongside the Saint Mark Basilica.

DOGE PALACE SECRET ITINERARY

The ticket includes the guided tour which lasts for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, for a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 25, to the Secret Itineraries and grants access, without a guide, to the Doge’s Palace.

– in English at 9.55, 10:45, and 11.35

– in French at 10.20 and 12.00

◼️ BOOKING

You can book your tickets in advance here. Remember to print the purchased voucher at home (by clicking the button print@home) and enter the museum through the reserved entrance or collect the tickets at the ticket office before entering.

If you don't want to buy the tickets online, don't go to the Doge's Palace, which is usually pretty crowded, but rather to the Museo Correr. Less waiting in line for sure!

The following museums are not included in the Venitian Civic Museums but are definitely worth mentioning.

PALAZZO GRASSI

Renovated by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana are two contemporary art museums that aim to share the love for contemporary art through the extraordinary Pinault Collection. Interestingly, once a month Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana organizes an open workshop for adults and kids of 8 years of age and older, to discover the exhibitions on view.

GALLERIA CA DORO

The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro is an intimate art museum located just at the Ca' d'Oro stop on the Grand Canal in Venice, and it is less than 10 minutes away from our apartments. The beautiful Gothic Palace is definitely a plus!

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is among the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the first half of the 20th century. It is located in Peggy Guggenheim's former exquisite home, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in Venice.

GALLERIE ACCADEMIA

The Accademia Gallery of Venice was born in 1750 when the Venetian Republic decided to give the city an Academy of painters and sculptors. Currently, it includes a huge collection of Venetian paintings from the Byzantine period, Gothic period, and it includes renowned Renaissance artists such as Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Veronese, Tintoretto, Tiziano to Giambattista Tiepolo, and so on.
